February 2021

To celebrate World Book Day, this voucher can be exchanged for a free book. The PDF version of the voucher can be printed out or shown on a phone.

This World Book Day, secondary school students have a choice of four brilliant books. Depending on what appeals to your interests, there is something for every kind of reader.
Booked Potato” Competition

For World Book Day this year instead of dressing yourself up, we are inviting you to dress a potato as a character from a book. Or if you are feeling really adventurous, create a scene from a book using potatoes!

Year 7 students will have the opportunity to create their Booked Potatoes together in their online lesson with Miss Heads, during the week commencing 1 March, so get your materials ready!

If you're not sure what book you should read next, take this literary quiz to point you in the right direction.

You could join Durham County Council Library online and read or listen to books for free - why not give it a try over the holidays?

Technology is having a huge impact on education and children now have access to many web based resources and comprehensive educational apps in the palm of their hand. It is fundamental that we support children in the safe use of digital technologies. It is important that we too are up to speed with the social networking trends and latest websites.

We have long known that a love of reading and writing can help children flourish at school and go on to succeed at work. We now know that reading and writing for enjoyment can also play a vital role in helping children lead happy and healthy lives.

Thank you to all St John's Duke of Edinburgh's Award participants for their hard work.
