December 2012

This year we have introduced a House Points system in which all children in the school, plus staff and governors have been involved. Children have been given the opportunity to gain points through achievements, academic, non-academic, sporting activities, charity work etc. In addition, each child has been gaining points through meeting the school's expectations in terms of behaviour, preparation for lessons and wearing the correct school uniform.

On Thursday 13th December, Miss Somers and Miss Smith took a number of Year 7 and Year 8 students ice skating. The trip was a reward for all of those students who put high levels or effort and enthusiasm into their curricular PE and/or extra curricular sport. It was an extremely enjoyable afternoon which involved 45 minutes of skating (with a few dance moves thrown in for good measure) and hot chocolate to follow.

In the lead up to Christmas some parents will be purchasing many digital and web enabled devices. It is essential that parents are aware of the full potential of the device, many of which can be used as an educational tool, and also to be aware of the risks that may arise. The following web link provides some very useful information : A Parents' Guide to Technology.

Some of our students were honoured in the Northern Echo Local Heroes Awards. Mrs Oulton was at the event and this is what she had to say:

Please ensure that your child is appropriately dressed during this cold weather spell. Children waiting for buses or transport should have waterproof footwear, gloves, hats, scarves and over coats in case of any delays or unforeseen circumstances. For PE lessons, students may be required to bring additional tops and bottoms and suitable outdoor footwear.
