February 2013

Students can be awarded not just for talent or artistic skill but for outstanding effort, positive attitude towards the subject, or greatest improvement. The Artists of the Month are as follows:

Students have just returned from the fourth annual ski trip to Pila, Italy. The trip catered for a wide range of abilities from complete beginner to the advanced skiers. Students took part in six days of ski instruction through the Interski Ski School and covered most of the seventy eight kilometres of slopes at the resort. All students had a fantastic and memorable experience.

On Thursday morning, cast members from the school's production of Guys and Dolls, along with Miss Kirkwood, became Radio stars when they went onto Bishop FM to promote the show. Laurie Kalus, Alice Byrne, Thomas Flood and Chloe Nattrass were all naturals and did a great job of promoting the show to all the listeners.

Five students represented South West Durham at Meadowfield on Saturday 2nd February. Despite very cold conditions all students ran very well.

Lord Jesus, as Lent begins we ask for the power of your spirit that we may become more thoughtful towards others, more honest with ourselves, and more faithful towards you. Help us to walk in your presence and grow as the people you want us to be.

Budding sculptors from Years 7 and 8 attended the official opening of the FebFest Exhibition at the McGuinness Gallery in Bishop Auckland Town Hall on 11 February.  Their sculpture, "Illuminated", evokes the art of the Anglo-Saxons and reflects their journey, with guidance from Mr Nugent, from initial research through to the creation of an Anglo-Saxon Cross.  Their artwork is to be exhibited alongside the Lindisfarne Gospels when they come to Durham later this year!  The Community Exhibition

7J were lucky enough to receive a visit from Durham University's Lindisfarne Gospels team during their RE lesson on Thursday 24th January.

The Students were able to handle an exact copy of the gospels and learnt about the rich history and intriguing images that lie within the book.

Following the presentation, students prepared their own modern interpretations of the covers of the four gospels which can be seen in the staff room.
