In separate age group tournaments both teams performed extremely well in order to achieve silver medal place. Year 8 in particular played a nail biting semi - final against Teasdale which went to extra time due to a tie at the full time whistle. The girls remained calm and work together as a team to score the first goal which enabled them to qualified for the final against Greenfield.
The competition was challenging with approximately 14 schools entered so St John's performed exceptionally well. Results below:

A huge thank you for your support with Year 7 & 8 students involved in yesterdays cross country. We had some excellent team and individual performances. Year 7 & 8 boys are now District Champions - the whole Year 7 team finished in the top 30 with 90 runners in the race! Year 7 Girls finished 5th and Year 8 Girls 3rd. St John's won overall! The following students finished in the top 15 in their races;

On Wednesday 24th we celebrated St John’s 10th Annual Sports Awards Evening. Over 150 students were awarded with their half and full colours for their dedication, commitment and performance when representing St John’s. Colours were awarded for performance in over 12 sports. In addition 18 students were awarded with a Gold Eagle for achieving county honours.

This year St John’s has set up a kayaking club with Bishop Auckland Kayak Club. The satellite club is funded through Sport England. It has allowed us to get some equipment and free coaching and has been running every Monday 4-5 after the school club. This has allowed students to improve their kayaking and all the students involved have made excellent improvements.

On Tuesday 24th June a number of students completed within a district multi-sports competition at Sedgefield school. The event included a range of different activities. St John’s competed at Under 15 boy’s 7’s rugby, Under 15 girls 7’s rugby, Under 15 girl’s rounders, table-tennis, Under 13 girls football and Under 15 boy’s football.

The year 9 athletics team participated in a District competition on Wednesday 18th of June at Shildon Stadium. This is an annual event which this year included 7 schools. St John’s, Woodham, Wolsingham, Bishop Barrington, Sedgefield, Parkside and Sunnydale.

The Year 9 football team won the county cup last night, beating Shotton Hall 2-0. Not only are they the first team from St John's to win the competition in Year 9, but also the first team to retain a county cup, having won in Year 8.

The Year 9 & 10 girls’ football team from St John’s School & Sixth Form College had a fantastic English Schools Cup run, making it all the way to the quarter finals in a competition that is open to every school team in the country.
