Welcome Letter

Dear Parent/Carer

We would like to welcome new parents/carers to St John's as well as those of you who already have children attending the school. Over the summer we celebrated fantastic exam results with our Year 11 students achieving 87% 5 or more A*-C grades and 68% including Maths and English. Our A levels results were also the best ever with 35% achieving A*and A grades. These students are now preparing to take up their places at university.

These results can only be achieved through hard work from students and staff and the wonderful support you give to your children. From Year 9 onwards students are now involved in GCSE courses and their equivalent and we will shortly be informing you of important information relating to their controlled assessments which now form an essential component of their final GCSE grade and exam preparation. We know you will agree that excellent attendance at school is vitally important in all year groups and we would positively discourage you from taking holidays during term time because of the impact we know it can have on students' learning and achievement.

We would like you to take the following points into consideration if you are thinking of taking your child out of school for holidays during term time. As a school we do not give permission for leave of absence during term time for holidays and similar activities. Authorisation for absences during term time will only be granted in exceptional circumstances which will be considered on completion of a holiday request form. It is very unlikely that absences will be authorised for students with an overall attendance of less than 95%.

If you have any particular concerns or queries regarding attendance, please do not hesitate to contact Mr Alan Greensitt who will be happy to discuss them with you.

We look forward to seeing many of you at the various events taking place during this very busy term.

Yours sincerely,

 Gerard Moran        Frank O'Neill
