Under 14 Girls reach the County Cup Final 2012

The Year 8 and 9 girls made it to the County Cup final this week with a win over Houghton Kepier Sports College.

St John’s began their campaign with a convincing 4-1 win over Framwellgate School. Georgia Terminiello making a fantastic debut with a hat-trick! She was definitely a good summer signing!

St John’s beat St Joseph’s Hebburn in the second round on penalties after a closely matched games where both teams finished on 1 goal a piece after extra time.  After 12 penalties and a save from Goal Keeper Ashleigh Black the game was decided with a Penalty kick from Abigail Lambert.

The semi final was against Houghton Kepier who had knocked St John’s out of the U13 cup with a 4-3 win. The teams were fairly evenly matched in the first 15 minutes with both teams having reasonable chances. The big change came after 18 minutes when Goal Keeper Ashleigh Black made a brilliant save in a 1v1 situation. Unfortunately Ashleigh sustained an ankle injury during this save and Abigail Lambert who usually plays in Centre Midfield stepped up and took Ashleigh’s place in goal. St John’s had a few chances in the remainder of the game (which was cut short due to the injury). Georgia Terminiello very nearly got on the end of a few well played balls from Midfield. Houghton Kepier also came close with a shot well saved by Abigail Lambert.

With no time for extra time the game went straight into penalties. After a few saves and misses from both teams the scores were levelled on 2-2. Up stepped Brodie Grayson who had not wanted to take the last penalty. Despite her hesitancy she calmly popped it into the right top corner to take St John’s into the Under 14 County-Cup final.

A big well done to all of the players.
