May 2015

On Sunday 21st May, 20 excited students from Year7 took the long journey to Zaragoza, Spain from Newcastle to take part in an exchange with our sister school Colegio, El Salvador

This was an invaluable exchange that allowed students to immerse themselves in a different culture, and put their knowledge of Spanish into practice within a meaningful context. In addition to this, St John’s students have made some lasting memories, and more importantly developed life-long friendships!

St John’s U 15 football team has won both County Cup competitions in the 2014/15 season. They beat Oxclose Community Academy in the Londonderry Cup Final, coming from behind to win 2-1. The goals were scored by Aidan Crooks & a last minute headed winner from Ethan Dixon, after a superb goalkeeping performance from Zach Hemming. Two days later they played against Biddick School in the Earl of Durham County Cup Final, once again having to come from behind to secure the victory.

Sadly we have to inform you that Matthew Dell, a Year 10 student here at St John’s, was tragically killed on Saturday when he was knocked down by a car. I know you will join us in feeling the great loss that Mr & Mrs Dell are suffering with the sudden death of their only child and we ask that you remember his family, his friends and our community in your thoughts and prayers during this sad time.
