Year 8

CONGRATULATIONS to the Year 8 football team who on Tuesday completed the league and cup double for the second year in a row. Well done.

Captain and hat-trick hero Steven Taylor

Someone once said revenge is a dish best served cold, and St John’s served their dish straight from the freezer. Ruthless, skilful, energetic and full-blooded are merely a few of the adjectives you could use to describe ‘The Eagles’’ performance against a side who had inflicted upon them their only defeat of the season thus far, by 6 goals to 2.

9/1/12

Following their refreshing ‘continental’ winter break, it was time for St John’s to burn off some of their mince-pies, roast dinners and various other festive fatteners with a TUC County Cup quarter final away to Houghton Kepier. A relatively large crowd were in attendance at Kepier’s impressive 3G pitch and the atmosphere was intensified by playing under the floodlights as the dark set in.

The St John's players (and staff!!!) had to put their Friday night antics on hold for a few hours as there was urgent business to attend to- the County Cups. Whether through coincidence or fixing, St John's had drawn Monkwearmouth away in both the two county cup competitions this season.

John Wooden once said 'Winning takes talent, to repeat it takes character'. There is no doubting the endless queue of talented footballers in year 8 but what of their character?

Following the disappointing events of the Spennymoor 8-a-side tournament on Saturday and the below par start to the second half of what could be a title decider in which a two goal lead was squandered......the character of team was tested to the limit.

On the hottest 29th September since 1853, the squad of 13 (unlucky for some) made their way to King James on an even hotter minibus. Unfortunately, due to it being year 6 open evening (and his birthday) the day before, Mr Swindells forgot the beloved Jaffa Cakes and water bottles. This could easily have been an excuse for the champions not to perform, but like true champions, St John's blew the opposition away with two early goals.

The long awaited return of school football finally arrived for the year 8 team. Following a brilliant turnout at the trial session, the squad for Wolsingham away was chosen. After much deliberation the managers decided on a 4-3-3 formation.
