"A Learning Community Guided by Gospel Values"

Information For Parents

On the 19th of December, a selection of students represented the Music Department and visited The Butterwick Hospice in Bishop Auckland.  Singers and instrumentalists played a variety of Christmas repertoire to entertain a small group of residents during their Christmas party.

As the end of term approaches, we would like to take this opportunity to wish everyone a happy and holy Christmas.  We would also like to thank you for your cooperation and support during this past term.  It has been a busy and hopefully enjoyable time for all students.

Dear Parent/Carer

We would like to welcome new parents/carers to St John's as well as those of you who already have children attending the school. Over the summer we celebrated fantastic exam results with our Year 11 students achieving 87% 5 or more A*-C grades and 68% including Maths and English. Our A levels results were also the best ever with 35% achieving A*and A grades. These students are now preparing to take up their places at university.

Year 6 pupils and their families are warmly invited to our Open Evening.

Dear Parents/Carers

We would like to take this opportunity to inform you that school will close for the summer break on Friday, 22 July at 1.30 pm, when the usual buses and taxis will arrive to take students home. Friday, 22 July will be a non-uniform day and we are asking for a minimum contribution of ?1.00, to go to the Year Charity, from those students wishing to come in their own clothes.

St John's has arranged for Uniform Evenings to take place to enable students to try on items and to buy blazers, ties, tank-tops, jumpers and skirts (if requested). Trousers and shirts will not be on sale as these items may be purchased from local shops at very reasonable prices.

The evenings have been arranged for the following dates in the Fred Wilson Community Hall:

  3.30pm - 7.00pm on Tuesday 19th July 2011

  3.30pm - 7.00pm on Wednesday 20th July 2011

Dear parent/carer,

Following our letter last week regarding the forthcoming industrial action, I am writing to inform you that:

The school will be open to students in Year 12 but closed to students in Years 7-10 on Thursday 30 June 2011

Dear Parent/Carer

In June 2010, schools deemed by Ofsted to be 'Outstanding' were invited to become Academies. Since that time, the Governors of St John's have been investigating what the implications of this would be for our school, as well as keeping abreast of national developments. Our intention throughout has been to understand the process, benefits and possible drawbacks of this change in status.

Dear Parents/Carers,

We have been informed by the ATL and NUT unions that they will be taking industrial action in the form of a strike on 30 June 2011.

This action is not against the school itself but is part of national industrial action organised by these trades unions about changes to the pensions schemes of their members.
