St John’s School and Sixth Form College, a Catholic Academy in Bishop Auckland is proud to be celebrating its 50th anniversary. An exciting programme of special events and commemoration is planned for next academic year starting with a Welcome Mass in early October.

In order to celebrate our student's achievements we would like to take this opportunity to invite you to our Year 11 Celebration Mass and Presentation which will be held on Monday, 16 June 2014. This is a unique opportunity for the year group to come and celebrate together. The event includes a Celebration Mass which will begin at approximately 10:45am. The presentation will begin at approximately 11:45am with a buffet lunch to follow.

In June, a two-man team will set out to cross the largest sand desert on the planet by wind power alone. The expedition will take Chris Edwards and George Wadsworth 1100 km from Dubai, UAE, to Salalah, Oman, by kite buggy – this will be the first time anyone has ever crossed the Empty Quarter by wind power alone.

Despite losing in the final of the Londonderry Cup last night, the Year 10 boys football team were an absolute credit to the school.  They put absolutely everything into the game and are naturally disappointed with the outcome of the match.  At 3-2 the match could have gone either way, but St Joseph’s strength shone through resulting in them winning 5-2.  The boys were a pleasure to take to such a wonderful venue and their conduct, both on and off the field, was fantastic.  If you see them a

This Easter St John’s students enjoyed an amazing week in the sun and snow in Aosta Pila, Italy. 21 students from Year 8 to 12 took to the slopes for a fantastic trip.

The student’s ranged from beginners to expert skiers however during their lessons all made improvements. The beginners did especially well and all managed a red run on only their third day of skiing which is exceptional. Others progressed onto black slopes.

As another busy and exciting term draws to an end, we are able to reflect on the many wonderful opportunities that have been enjoyed by students, staff and parents/carers at St John’s.
 

The Year 9 football team won the county cup last night, beating Shotton Hall 2-0. Not only are they the first team from St John's to win the competition in Year 9, but also the first team to retain a county cup, having won in Year 8.
