Girls Football: English Schools Cup

The Year 9 & 10 girls’ football team from St John’s School & Sixth Form College had a fantastic English Schools Cup run, making it all the way to the quarter finals in a competition that is open to every school team in the country.

The girls made it to the last 64 with a very difficult away tie to St Wilfrid's in Wakefield.  The last 32 saw a comfortable 4-1 win against Shelly College in Huddersfield.  In the last 16 St John's finally got a home tie against  Kepier School. In difficult conditions the girls played fantastically well winning the game 7-1 with goals from Erin Kelly, Lucy Postle and Sophie Wood.

The quarter finals were another long journey to Sandbatch to play Congleton School. This was a very exciting game that was played in very windy conditions and hail stones.  Congleton had previously won the Playstation Premiership competition at Anfield and had an Everton forward, Manchester United and England midfielder.  The girls played very well keeping the Congleton forward very quiet and creating some chances of their own.

The goal that separated the teams was a wonder goal from the England forward.
