St John's Year 8 girls were 2nd at the Regional Sportshall Final held at the  Louisa Centre Stanley.  St John's finished runners up in the County Finals, some of the outstanding performances and achievements are:Alice Parsons: 1st 2 Lap Race, 2nd Speed Bounce 1st 8 Lap Parlauf with Ashlyn Bland.

The recently installed stained glass at Main Reception is just one of the artworks produced during the Aycliffe Angels Project in late 2009.  This was to celebrate the brave and selfless women who worked in the munitions factory in Newton Aycliffe during the Second World War.  Year 7 students at St John’s as well as Year 6 students at St Joseph’s and St Mary’s, Newton Aycliffe took part in the project which was made possible by The Forge and supported by Arts Council England and Durham Count

Today, Friday 24th February, we had two representatives in from Laing O'Rourke construction company to work with a Year 7 technology classes. Laing O'Rourke have already been in to talk to some other Year 7s about what type of jobs are involved in the construction industry. They are visiting again to continue working with some other Technology classes about Sustainability in Construction. Today's task was to work in teams to build the tallest and most value for money tower.

The Year 8 and 9 girls made it to the County Cup final this week with a win over Houghton Kepier Sports College.

St John’s began their campaign with a convincing 4-1 win over Framwellgate School. Georgia Terminiello making a fantastic debut with a hat-trick! She was definitely a good summer signing!

St John's wins tickets to celebrate the Commonwealth Day Observance, in the presence of Her Majesty the Queen.

Students and staff returned from a fantastic and memorable week skiing in Malnitz, Austria. There were over 40 skiiers of varying abilities and each and everyone enjoyed the delightful and challenging slopes of Malnitz. Skiing in the largest snow fall Austria has had in years, the skiiers from Year 8 to Year 12, were able to develop their ski skills and enjoy the apres ski too!

A group of our Year 9 students have won the Hexham and Newcastle Catholic Partnership Modern Foreign Language Olympic Message Film competition 2012. The students prepared and filmed a short film giving their ideas of an olympic message entirely in French and German. The judges were most impressed by the confident presentations and commented particularly on their imaginative filming locations, good accents and charismatic performances. They will be presented with a trophy and certificates lat

On Holocaust Memorial Day ,Friday 27th January, forty Year 9 students visited Durham Cathedral and participated in workshops about the Holocaust and then listened to Rudi Oppenheimer a Holocaust survivor. Rudi survived five years under the Nazis in Holland and in the camps of ‘Westerbork’ and Bergen-Belsen. He ended up on ‘The Last Train from Belsen’.
