Student Leaders Elected!

Spain is not the only place where elections have been taking place recently!  Election fever hit St John’s last month when the whole Student Body and Staff voted for the School’s first head girl and boy in more than 30 years.   Our Student Council has been expanded this term to include Student representatives from each subject taught in school as well as senior prefects. They now form a new Student Leaders Forum which met in October to nominate four candidates from the Year 13 Senior prefects to go forward in the election process.

The four candidates and their supporters carried out an impressive election campaign in a series of assemblies with each Year Group, culminating with the ballot itself taking place during one lunch break. Voting turnout was high and polling stations, which were run by Year Group representatives and staff, were kept busy with queues forming at some Polling Stations!  In fact over 80% of students and staff cast their votes.  The vote has resulted in Bethany Swinburn becoming Head girl with runner up Vanessa Hedley as her Deputy. James Hind will be Head boy with Andrew Robson as his deputy. As well as representing the school on formal occasions, the four will play a key part in decision making through the Student Leaders Forum.  If any parents or readers were Head Girls or Boys when the school first opened we would love to hear of your experiences!
