Community Art Exhibition in Tow Law
Art students in Year 9 were pleased to take part in this year’s Community Art Exhibition in Tow Law. The theme was community. Brianna Twedall, Calista Donovan, Megan Stoker, Lily Bonas, Paul Ughra, Jennifer Hindle, Katie Hook and Shauner Molloy all spent a day at the Community Centre working with artist Alison Diamond and helping children from Blessed John Duckett Primary School and Millennium Primary School to create two splendid silk screen printed banners. Children from Blessed John Duckett also spent a morning at St John’s with art teacher Mrs Kipling creating images of buildings in Tow Law. The exhibition was officially opened by Councillor John Hart on 13 November. Led by a band of St John’s and Jack Drum samba players, children and staff processed (in decidedly blustery weather!) to the church of St Philip and St James as well as to St Joseph’s Church where the banners and other artwork were displayed. Father Ryan gave a blessing and said a few words. The event included musical entertainment by members of the choir and musicians from St John’s as well as the children themselves. Back at the Community Centre everyone enjoyed hot chocolate, soup, bread and a brownie. We very much appreciate the opportunity given us by Jenny Mountain to be involved in this community project.
