Vacancy: Parent Governor

Becoming a Parent Governor is one of the most significant ways you can help to promote the partnership between school and home for the benefit of all children in our care. The Governing Body’s main tasks are to ensure that students receive high quality education and to plan for the development of St John’s now and in the future.

Anyone who has parental responsibility for a student at St John’s at the time of the election can stand for election; may nominate someone and/or may vote. Parents who work at the school for 500 hours per year are not eligible to be Parent Governors, but may vote in Parent Governor elections.

We warmly welcome nominations from every area of our parent community and, if elected, we will offer an induction training programme. We are particularly interested in candidates who may have experience, skills or a keen interest in the following areas: finance, accounting, legal services and human resources.

Completed nomination forms must be received by Vicky Howard, Clerk to the Governing Body, by 12:00 noon on Friday 16 December 2016.  Every nomination, however, must be signed by the candidate stating that s/he is willing to stand. Candidates are also asked to write a summary (max 250 words) about themselves, why they wish to become a Governor and their suitability to the needs of the school.  If we receive more than two nominations, there will be an election. Candidates may not withdraw from the election once ballot papers have been circulated.

Ballot papers and election statements will be sent home on Monday 19 December 2016.  The closing date for the return of ballot papers is 12:00 noon on Friday 6 January 2017.  Papers will be counted at 15:00 on Friday 6 January 2017 and all candidates are invited to attend.  The ballot is secret and you should return the ballot paper to school in the envelope provided, or drop it into the secure ballot box in Main Reception in St John’s.

If you would like to know a little more about becoming a Parent Governor, please do not hesitate to contact Vicky Howard on 01388 600881.
