Bronze Duke of Edinburgh Final Expedition

Our Adventure began with 41 students all packed and eager to start their final assessed expedition around the picturesque landscape of beautiful Middleton-in-Teesdale. This involved two days walking with a total of 24 kilometers over some of the most spectacular scenery in the country. Undulating hills, meandering rivers and pretty cobblestone villages all helped to make it a challenging but enjoyable route for all. Despite the intense heat and humid conditions all students performed fantastically well, they were organised and prepared for all our unique weather!!

On the evening the students had to prepare and cook their own meal with only a small burner in rainy conditions. However this never dampened their spirits and they still enjoyed a game of football to round off the evening with fun and laughter.

The next day we began with an early start of 6.30am! Breakfast, packing up equipment and on road by 8am. By this time the sun was searing hot and like the ships of the desert the students were all tanked up with water and sunscreen and ready for the day ahead. The day was to navigate their way to Low Force using their nearly-learned map skills, lots of stamina and team work while taking lots of pictures and videos to be included in their presentations.

They were rewarded at the end with a spectacular view and successfully achieved their expedition part of the Duke of Edinburgh Bronze Award. The atmosphere and camaraderie at the end of the day was heart warming and the staff were very proud to be part of their D of E journey. We celebrated with a round of cool and refreshing ice lollies.
